Counterfeit Cache Sting

Phuket, which is probably best known for the 2004 Tsunami, is an island of Thailand’s that has about 80 thousand foreigners living in high-style and attracts the tourists from all over the world, because of its beaches and hidden resorts catering to the rich and famous.

This month, Phuket Customs accomplished a headline grabbing array of busts.

Surprisingly, high-performance brake calipers were seized. I never thought of counterfeit brakes, but the high-performance category makes it a niche’ and expensive after-market product sought  by the young.

Counterfeit watches, air-powered handguns, DVDs, movie and game CDs, mobile phones, and handbags rounded out the booty. About 2 ½ million baht of goods in all was seized, which translates to about 75 thousand dollars worth of goods.

It was a big bust, but really just a kink in the over-all amount of pirated goods available in Thailand.
