The monsoon season continues with rain just about every night in the city, which is great because it cleans the air and makes sleeping easy, especially for those who do not have air conditioning. (Yes, I have air conditioning in my home.)
Even thought it is the “off” season for tourists, it’s a great time to visit Bangkok. It’s easy to get rooms and company.
Starbucks just celebrated its ten year anniversary in Thailand. It’s hard to believe that the American Icon has been here ten years. I remember when it was difficult to find a fast food franchise or any other American Icon here.
Now, McDonald’s, KFC, Subway, Starbucks, Swensen’s, Sizzler, and a host of others are everywhere. This probably accounts for the increase in Thai body weight.
The taxies are having their meters adjusted so it costs more to move about the city, but with the higher price of fuel, there seems to be fewer vehicles on the road and the big trucks tend to stick to late-night movement.
The movie theatres are great here; assigned seating, comfy, and you can drink alcohol while watching a film. The Dark Knight filled my Friday and you have to admit that Heath Ledger was great as the Joker, and he reminded me of Michael Keaton in BeetleJuice.
On the housing front, there are plenty of condos available for sale, many of which are on the high end. (500 thousand dollars and up)
And since it’s Tuesday, it’s Mexican buffet night at Bourbon Street in Washington Square. SO, that’s where I’ll be, I just can’t get enough of that pecan pie with the cream cheese base. YUM!
